The dinosaur of the day: Microceratus
- Can see Microceratus in Jurassic World, on a brochure made as a movie prop, also on the JW website, and is mentioned in the first Jurassic Park book
- Ceratopsian that lived in the Cretaceous in what is now the Gobi Desert in Mongolia
- Name means “small horned”
- First described in 1953 by Bohlin and named Microceratops. but Microceratops was already the name of a wasp
- Mateus gave it a new name in 2008, Microceratus
- Type species is Microceratus gobiensis
- Partial remains found
- However, most of the material found was reassigned to Graciliceratops
- Small, about 2 ft (0.6 m) long
- Had a frill and beak (used to bite off vegetation)
- Small frill probably used for display
- Herbivorous, ate ferns, cycads, conifers
- Bipedal, with short arms
- Probably fast and agile
- May have been prey for small dromaeosaurs and troodonts
Fun Fact:
- Steven Spielberg has made more money (by far) than any other director, and with JurassicWorld Fallen Kingdom, he’ll likely be the top grossing Producer again as well
