The dinosaur of the day: Scorpios rex
- Hybrid dinosaur in Jurassic World
- First hybrid dinosaur Henry Wu made (even before Indominus rex and Indoraptor), and took many tries
- Looked very hybrid
- Scorpios rex design and some poses are similar to the human-dinosaur hybrids proposed for Jurassic Park IV
- Meant to be uglier, since it was the first (then Indoraptor looks the sleekest)
- Designed to have too long of arms, thinner than usual torso, and the quills, and the movements meant to be zombie-like, like it’s not totally in control of its movement
- Medium-sized theropod
- About 26 ft (8 m) long
- Bipedal, but could walk on all fours
- Smaller than Indominus rex but bigger than Indoraptor
- Had red eyes and slit pupils, as well as an overbite and jagged, uneven teeth
- Eyes were high on its face
- Dark grey or dirt brown in color
- Had charcoal black scales
- Had short, powerful jaws
- Had long, powerful arms
- Had flexible shoulder joints
- Had quill like spines on its head
- Had venomous spines on its elbows, tail, and neck (from scorpionfish DNA), which it could use like a porcupine (get spines stuck in flesh)
- Had opposable thumbs and talons that could grasp, as well as a somewhat prehensile tail
- Had infrared vision
- Had short spurs that grew out the back of its heels
- Considered to be too ugly to be seen by the public
- Behavior ranged from calm to very aggressive and unpredictable
- Had labored breathing
- Seemed to always be in pain
- Ruthless and violent
- Fast runner, could run faster than Gallimimus
- Able to climb
- Attacked by slashing, kicking, pouncing, biting, screeching, and with its quills
- Easily takes down a Ceratosaurus and kills other dinosaurs, including a Brachiosaurus
- Name means “scorpion king”
- Named for the scorpionfish (bottom dwelling, venomous fish)
- Also had claws like Velociraptor, and horns and scales like Carnotaurus
- Also known as E750
- Could survive for long periods of time in below freezing water, possibly because of its tree frog genes
- Matures in four months
- Attacks its own offspring
- Described as a failed experiment
- Two individuals, with only one created by Henry Wu, and it produced asexually (from its frog DNA)
- Held frozen in InGen’s secret tunnels, until it escaped in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous
- Wu was attacked once and ordered to kill Scorpios rex (staff saved him with antivenom), but instead he put it in cryonic stasis
- Not many people knew of its existence
- Power overload and damage to the electrical grid after the events of Jurassic World eventually led to Scorpios rex thawing out and escaping in season 3 of Camp Cretaceous
- Caused the other dinosaurs on the island to change their behaviors and become more aggressive
- Attacks the kids in Camp Cretaceous, and only stops when it gets distracted by fire from a lightning strike
- Hurts Sammy with its quills, and Yasmina has to run to the lab to get the antidote
- Tries to attack Bumpy, but the herd of Ankylosaurus defends her (they have thick enough armor)
- Scorpios rex also attacks each other
- Blue ends up saving Darius and Ben from both Scorpios rex, and the Scorpios rex are crushed and killed when the Visitor Center collapses on top of them
- The campers destroy Wu’s laptop, so Scorpios rex cannot be recreated
- Available as an action figure, where it can chomp and roar, attack with its tail, and slash with claws
