Here’s what came out this week in dinosaur news:

  • Scientists have found a new muscular caenagnathid dinosaur called Apatoraptor pennatus, according to CBC and Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology
  • A new study found that dinosaurs may have been on their way to extinction before the asteroid hit, according to CNN, Washington Post, BBC, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
  • T-rex and other carnivorous dinosaurs may have been good scavengers, according to HNGN and American Naturalist
  • Nicolas Cage’s dinosaur skull is definitely going back to Mongolia, according to Page Six
  • The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Tampa FL is hosting a Dinosaur Festival, according to The Tampa Tribune
  • Gizmodo posted a review of Jurassic World: The Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum in Australia
  • Atlantic City Convention Center in NJ had an interactive dinosaur exhibit that drew in 10,000 visitors, according to Press of Atlantic City
  • Vandals ruined a Velociraptor sculpture that stood at the front of the Exploration Place Museum + Science Centre in Canada, according to The Citizen

This Week in Dinosaur News: New Ornithomimosaur Tototlmimus packardensis, Hurricane Patricia and Dinosaur Fossils, Dinosaurs of Utah Museum in Japan, Macy’s Day Parade, and More

Here’s what came out this week in dinosaur news:

  • A new ornithomimosaur was announced in Cretaceous Research, called Tototlmimus packardensis, one of the southernmost ornithomimid found in North America, according to National Geographic
  • Researchers found a hadrosaurid in Northern Oman, according to Plos One and Gulf News
  • Hurricane Patricia brought a storm surge into the Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, so museum director Tim Fedak took photos of the bones in the cliff in order to create 3D scans, and after the storm a block of the cliff was removed to preserve the fossils, according to Herald News
  • In Japan, there may be a “Dinosaurs of Utah Museum,” according to KSL
  • Crytek’s “Back to Dinosaur Island” will give you the perspective of a baby dinosaur in virtual reality, according to Gamasutra
  • Plants vs. Zombies 2 includes dinosaurs that help you ward off zombies, according to Realty Today
  • The Sinclair Oil dinosaur appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, the first time since 1976, according to New York Post
